Good thing I already owned it. Best to buy this one sooner rather then later. The first boxsets DVD covers are UGLY, like no doubt in my mind the WORST covers on any anime DVD (IMO). But the DVDs are otherise fine, and have great extra features. I don't know what the deal is with the second box set since I don't own it, but I'm sure its fine as well.

Also this is a very MANLY show. Like lots of testosterone around...you have been warned ;).

Anyway thanks for reading, and thanks for commenting!Predehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12267986078837669473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6258070077358958545.post-7693148715744840272010-01-12T20:36:59.936-05:002010-01-12T20:36:59.936-05:00Another nice review. Like I said, since they are all criminals it makes a lot of sense. Plus it gave it a real edge. But I understand why you might not like it know. I get yah. Bakewell doesn't always do this though. "Dominion" had curses but it's nothing like this, it was not over the top, and nothing too bad. And "A Wind Named Amnesia" was very clean. Sometimes adding curses works, like in this, or "Gantz" or "Black Lagoon" or something. And other times it kinda hurts the show when they are uncalled for. I've also heard some of "Mad Bull 34", now that's an interesting dub by Bakewell. I find it funny listening to English people trying to fake New York accents, and failing. It's got some really spotty actors, although the main cast was spot on most of the time, and although the cursing was not really needed in that case, it did make the dub VERY funny. Although that show is just nuts and over the top as it was. I think I liked the random cursing there. But the dub is kinda bad, in many places. Although like I said the main cast was pretty good. Bakewell was not at the top of his game for that dub clearly. Maybe they didn't care much though, cuz that show was so low brow and stupid at times , why bother with the dub lol?

LOL "Crystal Triangle", that's a bottom on the barrel show right there. What should I do give it 4 stars for being the best comedy ever, or 0 stars for being a terrible show with unintentional humor? :D I've been planning on buying that on VHS so when I do I'll be sure to review it. I GATA get that anime lol. I hear it's very funny, although for all the wrong reasons. "Dog Solider", I saw a clip of that one. It seems to be another terrible train wreck, with unintentional humor lol. Not sure if I'll get to that one though. I remember the part where the guy jams the knife into the other guys forehead lol. And the girl jumps in front of the knife...priceless. "Roots Search" I've never heard of. Must be something they only released like once, sub only on VHS right? Probally another work of art (lol...). I should look into that one though. "Wanna-Be's" huh? I heard it actually wasn't that bad. I rememebr someone saying they liked that. I don't own it though, but if I buy it one day it will get a review.

My next review will probally be something newer though, since I've done a few old school CPM titles now. Perhaps Alien Nine, Shadow Star Narutaru, Masquerade, Maze, or Nightwalker (or something along those lines). Whatever one of those I'm in the mood for. But I'll be sure to review an old school title afterwards all right? Probally something they released on DVD though.Predehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12267986078837669473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6258070077358958545.post-77295773662136947372009-12-14T20:39:49.566-05:002009-12-14T20:39:49.566-05:00Prede, probably my cynicism at what Manga were try...Prede, probably my cynicism at what Manga were trying to do in the 1990's in the UK. According to Helen McCarthy and Jonathan Clements, they were deliberately adding profanity so the BBFC would rate the title higher like an "15" or "18" rating rather than "PG" or "12". A rebellious teenager doesn't want to pick up a tape with "PG" on it! Well at least that's what Island (Manga) thought.

You should do some ancient CPM title reviews for titles like "Dog Solider", "Crystal Triangle", "Roots Search", "Wanna Be's" and the like (though they're probably the worst in their old catalogue).greborurihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16542242291602170325noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6258070077358958545.post-24128857837378618492009-12-14T17:18:40.229-05:002009-12-14T17:18:40.229-05:00Hmmm...Yeah I probally should have mentioned the d...Hmmm...Yeah I probally should have mentioned the dub may not be for everyone. Some don't like alot of cursing in their dubs. But I thought it fit, even though it was a little liberal with the script. I'm not that much of a purist, especially for these types of shows. But remember these are criminals after all, and in Japanese there really aren't that many curses so, if you translate it excactly it's kinda weird. You'll have criminals talking like choir boys and that just doesn't fit the context of the show. I thought the dub really spiced up the show, and made it really interesting. And I laughed, a lot, so it really worked for me. And it's very well acted, you can't ignore that.

Anyway thansk so much for reading and commenting!Predehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12267986078837669473noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6258070077358958545.post-4290879731688018342009-12-14T15:11:23.714-05:002009-12-14T15:11:23.714-05:00I remember renting this tape out in the mid 1990’s...I remember renting this tape out in the mid 1990’s, but I think I really want impressed with Bakewell’s dub. Like the “Appleseed” OVA and “Angel Cop”, it’s swearing galore where there was none in the originals (though in Angel Cop’s case, at least it hides the anti-Semitism and anti-Americanism which was in the original). Again I bought the DVD of this when CPM had just deleted the series. I found I liked the Japanese version a whole lot better than the dub. I really liked the heavy Edo era influence on the show. Mixes in nicely with the cyber punk setting somehow.greborurihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16542242291602170325noreply@blogger.com
